Invisalign is an innovative approach to orthodontics that relies on a series of removable invisible trays or “aligners” to gently move your teeth into their correct alignment. The aligners are worn in a specific sequence or order, helping to ensure your teeth continue to move in the right directions to achieve a beautiful, straight result. Because the aligners are custom-made just for you and the alignment issues you face, they’re effective and can achieve results in less time than traditional braces. The aligners are made of a durable, medical-grade plastic that can be easily cleaned with gentle brushing.
First, Dr. Azar will evaluate your teeth to make sure Invisalign is the best choice for you. Once it’s determined you’re a good candidate, your treatment will begin with a series of impressions or “molds” of your teeth. These impressions are sent to a dental lab that specializes in Invisalign aligners. The impressions are scanned into a computer that uses advanced software technology to develop a series of virtual 3D models showing how your teeth need to move to come into alignment and patients are able to see the end results before they start the treatment. The models serve as the basis for your aligners. During your treatment, you’ll wear each aligner for about two weeks. Then that aligner will be exchanged for the next one in the series. You’ll see Dr. Azar about every six weeks or so to make sure your treatment is progressing well.
First, Invisalign aligners are clear, which means they’re nearly invisible while they’re being worn. Second, Invisalign aligners can be removed, so it’s a lot easier to brush and floss your teeth. They’re also removed for eating, which means there are no dietary restrictions like there are with traditional metal and ceramic braces. The aligners are smooth, so you won’t have to worry about sore spots or irritation that can be caused by wires and brackets. And finally, since they’re custom-designed just for you, treatment typically is much faster with Invisalign compared to traditional braces.
Invisalign can be used to correct lots of alignment and spacing issues, and there are versions for both teens and adults. Still, it’s not always the ideal choice. Dr. Azar will be able to determine if you’re a good candidate for Invisalign during your consultation appointment.
